WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT
Highland is a church of ordinary people who have been transformed by an extraordinary gospel – Jesus dying and being raised to life so that broken sinners like us can be reconciled to God. This is the good news we celebrate, live, and share. We invite you to join us Sundays at 10:30am for our weekly worship gathering.
If you've never been with us before, you probably have questions. Here are some of the most common ones.
What are Sunday gatherings like?
Our gatherings are not about the people on a stage, whether they're singing, speaking, or praying. We gather to make much of Jesus – His life, death, and ressurection for us.
We work to keep our worship services simple, authentic, and focused on Jesus. Most Sunday mornings, we start by singing a few songs centered on Christ (from hymns to modern worship songs). Then, one of our pastors will preach a sermon from the Bible, explaining what the Bible is saying and how we are to apply its message to our lives through faith in the Gospel. Then, we end our gathering how we began: singing together in response to what we've heard. Of course, we pray together and work to serve and forge meaningful relationships with those in our midst. Some weeks, we'll even take communion together or celebrate others being baptized.
If any of this sounds strange or new to you, that’s okay. We'll do our best to explain what we're doing so you can join in with us.
What if I have children?
We can't wait to serve them! Your children are more than welcome to stay with you throughout our worship gathering. We have a nursing/cry room (with a live video feed of our worship gathering) just in case parents may need extra room and privacy. We also have a team of screened and trained individuals in our children's ministry who offer ministries to younger children during our worship service. Our nursery team is available each Sunday to care for newborn children through pre-K's. Also, right before the sermon (during the first three Sundays of the month), children, kindergarten-2nd grade are invited to go to a group teaching time in our children's wing. In the end, we are here to partner with you in pointing your children to Jesus.
Will I be expected to give money?
No. There is zero expectation or pressure for guests to give. Instead, as our guest, we want you to be focused on recieving from the gracious, giving God while you are with us.
Do I need to dress up?
Absolutely not. We have a relaxed environment, so wear what's comfortable. We are here for you, no matter how you're dressed. Just come as you are.
Can I attend if I am ______?
Fill in the blank with whatever you fear would make you unwelcome: divorced, hurting, broke, struggling, skeptical, unbelieving, etc. Whether you grew up in church, have never been to church, consider yourself a follower of Jesus, or have questions, we'd love for you to attend.
